There’s a new rumor that claims Dead Space is coming to Fortnite.

On the Bingo Card of “things I didn’t see getting added to Fortnite”, I would have had Dead Space as my center square. Yes, Dead Space is a horror game. Yes, Fortnite has done horror collaborations before with things like Strange Things and Resident Evil, but man, I didn’t think they’d go to this degree.

See, Dead Space is pretty horrifying. While Resident Evil has the spookems, it’s not really that scary. It’s intense and nerve-racking but it isn’t like “…ahhh! I’m scared!” It’s more like “OH GEEBUS THAT ZOMBIE WAS IN THE URINAL WAITING FOR ME!”

See, that’s scary on two levels. It’s popular horror, it’s the Frosted Flakes of horror. It’s horror but it’s mainstream horror, so it’s ok.

If Resident Evil was a horror movie it’d be Halloween. And if Dead Space was a horror movie it’d be Hostile, but just the “eye-scene” from Hostile on loop. It’s far more intense and maybe it’s not the best collab possible, but according to current rumors, the collaboration is supposed to come in January.

A Dead Space crossover makes more sense for October and Halloween

Assuming the rumors are true, the collaboration will be coming in January and that seems like the wrong time to bring in a horror franchise crossover.

Considering it’s a horror franchise and Fortnite does the annual Fortnitemares event every year around that time, it just makes sense to hold off until October so fans can get some really unique and interesting items during the spookiest of seasons.

Hopefully, the folks at Fortnite go all out this year for Fortnitemares because a lot of people weren’t happy about it this past October. I for one was, but I can see why others needed more.
