Skating may not be dead in Fortnite after all but it may be a while before it’s here.

When No Sweat Summer was announced for Fortnite, fans were eagerly hoping for several new things to be added to the game. New weapons, a new motorbike, and especially the long-rumored skating mechanic.

Unfortunately, the new skating mechanic didn’t come to Fortnite as rumored and now we’re left wondering what happened. There were obviously plans to bring it in, as an entire skate park was added to the map for the new summer-themed event, but it now sits there, completely abandoned.

The new mechanic never came and the skating vehicle, whether it was roller skates or a skateboard, was never introduced and the point of interest is rarely used in-game. Why would it be, when the sole reason for its existence was kept out of the last update?

Yet, there is hope.

Skating may be introduced into Fortnite after all

According to Top5Gaming, the skating landmark won’t go unused forever. The reason why the skating mechanic was sidelined had to do with the risk of it breaking. Apparently, a bulk of the crew working on the game was taking an extended break during the bulk of No Sweat Summer.

Not wanting to implement a brand new feature and risk it breaking during the course of their vacation, it apparently got vaulted in the interim until everyone was back at the offices. This was obviously done, in theory, to avoid having to cut their well-earned vacations short, or basically making players deal with a broken mechanic.

As broken mechanics can lead to players abandoning the game, this was a solid idea. Should the rumor be true, we mean. With the expected summer vacation coming to an end sooner rather than later, the hope is that the folks at Epic Games and Fortnite bring the new mechanic into the game before the end of summer.

Next. Not allowing Wolverine to use his claws in Fortnite is just dumb. dark
