What is a Detector in Fortnite?
By Andrew Lin
If you’ve been keeping up with Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7’s Legendary Quests, you’ll surely run into the one where you have to equip a Detector and disable an Alien Billboard. The Detector isn’t an item you can collect or really “equip”, so what is a Detector in Fortnite?
It sounds like one of the crazy new Alien/IO weapons that are being added with each update, but it’s not like that at all. It’s an interactable object on the map.
What is a Detector in Fortnite?
The Detector will take the form of a blue glow in the areas marked on the map by the Quest. Approach them and press the prompted button to equip. It kind of looks like the Proton Pack from Ghostbusters when you have it on. It has no gameplay value beyond the Quest objective.
From there, you need to find an Alien Billboard. It’s called an “Alien” Billboard, but you won’t be able to tell the difference from a normal billboard. Get close to the billboard with the Detector on, and you’ll find that the sign will change to display the words “SUBMIT”.
Press the prompt to disable the subliminal message, and you’ll have completed the Quest.
The fastest, most straight forward way to complete this is to head to the fountain in Misty Meadows. Equip the Detector, and head up the nearby stone stairs. You should be able to see the billboard on the grass.
If Misty is too hot for you to land or overrun with Saucers, Craggy Cliffs is a more out of the way location. The Detector is located in front of Fishtstick’s restaurant on the eastern side. The billboard here on the west, by the house on the hill.
Either way, complete the Quest to earn yourself an easy 15,000 XP for your Battle Pass. The next Quest is even easier; all you have to do is harvest materials at Holly Hatchery.
