Fortnite Ranked Play is coming to Zero Build and Battle Royale sooner than fans might think.

Epic Games released a teaser trailer for the game mode yesterday, highlighting different emblems for eight Ranks: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, and Unreal. Players will finally have the chance to progress through a competitive playlist separate from Arena, and see how they rank among the best players in the world.

Unlike other popular Ranked modes, like Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Ranked, all players will have to play one Ranked match to receive their starting Rank. Ranks will be based on their performance in that match, as well as their past results in either Zero Build or Battle Royale.

So, when is Fortnite Ranked coming out?

Fortnite Ranked Play Release Date

Fortnite Ranked Play goes live on May 16 as part of update v24.40. The drop seems sudden for such a major addition to the game, but at least Epic Games is not making fans wait months for the highly anticipated mode.

It is unclear how the current Star Wars collaboration will impact Ranked Play. Although Lightsabers and DC-15 Blaster Rifles are fun to use in casual matches, they present a real threat to competitive integrity in Ranked matches.

Update v24.40 will also include the following changes to the game:

  • Material caps will now be 500
  • Harvesting rates will be slightly increased
  • Eliminated players will drop 50 of each material

As you wait for the new competitive mode, check out FNCS Major 2 Grand Finals, starting today at 8 p.m. ET.
