Rumors abound before Chapter 4 that Final Fantasy VII was coming, but will it?

Fortnite is always tied to crossovers these days. It’s pretty much the core tenant of their money-making machine. More crossovers mean more limited-time outfits to purchase. If you’re purchasing the limited-release items, it means Fortnite is more incentivized to keep doing crossovers.

Eventually, they’re going to run out of crossovers, right? Maybe they’ll get desperate enough to do a defunct fast-food mascot crossover. Why not bring in Ronald McDonald? Well, until we get to hunt down Grimace and Birdie, we’ll just have to settle for more conventional pop culture crossovers, like the rumored one with Final Fantasy VII.

There have long been rumors of a Fortnite crossover with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII property. The game, which many critics label as the best RPG game of all time, is still one of the most popular properties the developers ever created. So much so that it’s spawned sequels and spinoffs at a time when each Final Fantasy game was self-contained.

With the remake having been released not long ago, and the follow-up to it on its way in the winter of 2023, it makes sense that the two brands would do business with each other eventually.

When can fans expect the Final Fantasy VII crossover, if at all?

If I was a betting man, and I’m not, I think sometime during the first two seasons of Chapter 4 make the most sense. The My Hero Academia crossover happened very quickly but also bombed very quickly due to the whole Deku Smash attack being vaulted

Right now, the developers at Fortnite need a home run, and doing a Final Fantasy VII crossover this chapter makes all the sense in the world. Just, don’t expect it. The developers have failed a lot in recent months and even if the crossover rumor had merit, which I don’t think it does, there’s no reason to think the Fortnite devs would get it right.
