Why didn’t the rumored Fortnite and Lord of the Rings crossover happen?

Near the end of Chapter 3, Fortnite started hinting at the idea of a Lord of the Rings crossover coming to the game. This got a lot of fans excited, as Lord of the Rings was one of the biggest properties in the world, and Amazon was launching a prequel series, the Rings of Power.

Due to these factors, and the revelation of a sand castle version of Helm’s Deep, appearing in the game, many put two and two together. The thought became that Fortnite was bringing in a Rings of Power crossover, after all, the game was hinting at Lord of the Rings with the Helm’s Deep sand castle.

Despite the show’s astronomical budget and Amazon’s desire to make it a tentpole property for their streaming service, everyone seemingly hated the show. By any metric, it failed. IMDB has it at a 6.9, and Rotten Tomatoes critic scores have it at a 52%. While their fan score has it a 38%.

The show flopped where it mattered most and even the most open-minded, inclusive fans of Lord of the Things, thought the show failed in every way possible. So is that why the rumored crossover didn’t happen?

Who knows, but it’s a sound idea.

Fortnite may have just been trolling

Fortnite loves to troll fans. Sometimes it’s on purpose, other times it may have been a cheeky easter egg that they put in because they like the property and wanted to add a piece of their personality to the game.

We have no idea if this Helm’s Deep sand castle was supposed to hint at the crossover, or if it was just a fun, tongue-in-cheek easter egg from a Lord of the Rings fan on the Epic Games development staff.
