The Last of Us may pop up in Fortnite this season but should it?

Fortnite is always doing crossovers. It’s arguably the thing the game is most known for these days. Even more so than the obnoxious dances that either come from or get added to the game. I’m so glad no one Flosses anymore. Yet, whenever a new major media franchise gets some new content, the question of whether or not it’ll come to Fortnite will come up.

Welcome to the conversation The Last of Us.

The Last of Us was originally a video game for the PlayStation 3 in June of 2013. It would then be released for the PlayStation 4, and then remade for the PlayStation 5 under the new name the Last of Us: Part 1.

The general concept of the game is that you play as Joel, and you’re escorting a young girl named Ellie to a hospital on the other side of the country as she may be the cure to a ravenous disease that has turned people into plant zombies.

Fortnite should avoid the Last of Us

The Last of Us has a new show set to debut in 2023, starring Pedro Pascal of The Mandolorian as Joel, and Bella Ramsey of Game of Thrones as Ellie. The show is getting a lot of hype and that alone has fans wondering if the franchise will show up in Fortnite.

Frankly, I don’t think it should, and for several reasons. Firstly, what version should show up? You have the games and you have the show. Now, you can do both and just have different variants but that’s a lot of money to spend.

Secondly, the tone of the game and show is pretty dark, and while fans have accepted darker-themed concepts in Fortnite before, it feels like this one is too dark and too real to be part of Fortnite. The tones and stories that the series tells are very heavy, even heavier than most of the other concepts the game brings in.

Lastly, the release of The Last of Us Part 2 has caused a lot of fans to leave the franchise over decisions they weren’t happy with, so any inclusion of the Last of Us franchise with Fortnite may hurt the player base numbers and since Fortnite has lost gobs of players over the last months, they should avoid button pressing franchises like The Last of Us for a while.
