Fortnite nails it with the Phantasm character design.

Fortnite has really hit it out of the ballpark with this one. A new character design has landed in Fortnite called Phantasm. The look is among the cooler ones released all summer and he comes with the added ability to earn different items the more you level him up.

Is that a good thing? No, but we’ll talk about that later.

The pack is 1,200 V-Bucks, and will only be in the Fortnite Store for a limited time. So what comes with this character pack? I’m glad you asked. You get the dope Phantasm Outfit with the purchase. While he rocks a fishing-hat-looking headpiece, the rest of his design is stylish and sleek. You also get a really cool Pickaxe called The All-Seeing Scythe, which looks like the love child weapon of Castlevania’sDeath and the Fate Sisters. You also get the Beyond Portal Back Bling and the Spectral Vision Wrap, which will give you nightmares.

You can unlock additional edit styles for each item, but you have to complete four weeks of in-game quests, starting next Tuesday and going until the end of Chapter 3, Season 3 on September 17.

Leveling up a paid-for item is a scam

Fortnite is really scammy for this one. You purchase the outfit and promise fans there are alternates, but you have to finish all of these useless quests to unlike it. Despite already purchasing it. These are the things that the game should give away for free, especially since all they’re used for is extending a player’s time in-game.

It’s manipulative as heck, and the fact Fortnite makes players “earn” the cosmetic re-designs of these items is pretty tacky. It’d be one thing if you got the outfit and cosmetics for free, but that’s not the case.

Now, you can simply not purchase the outfit, sure, but that can be said about every Fortnite item.
