Fans of Fortnite and LEGO are going to enjoy this news.

Epic Games announced that they’re partnering with The LEGO Group to build a digital environment for kids and families. The “metaverse” that they’re going to build will be a digital experience that kids will be able to use to build and create in a “save and positive space”. The idea is to facilitate the growth and creativity of a child’s imagination but to do so in a way where they’re protected.

The CEO of The LEGO Group, Niels B Christiansen, spoke about the matter in a press release, where he talked about why this is important for them to do, from Fortnite News;

"Kids enjoy playing in digital and physical worlds and move seamlessly between the two. We believe there is huge potential for them to develop life-long skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences. But we have a responsibility to make them safe, inspiring and beneficial for all. Just as we’ve protected children’s rights to safe physical play for generations, we are committed to doing the same for digital play. We look forward to working with Epic Games to shape this exciting and playful future."

The folks at LEGO and Epic Games have created three principles to operate their digital space by, in order to keep kids safe and engaged in the product.

"Protect children’s right to play by making safety and wellbeing a priority.Safeguard children’s privacy by putting their best interests first.Empower children and adults with tools that give them control over their digital experience."

A daring idea from Epic Games and LEGO

The idea of putting Epic Games and LEGO together in a digital space makes all the sense in the world, as they’re very similar to what they provide their fans with. Both groups are a creation-first concept, with both encouraging their fans to build and create different things.

Granted, for different reasons. LEGO to help young minds grow and explore, Fortnite, Epic’s big cash cow, to make sure you aren’t eliminated by a Monster-fueled pre-teen. This will be an interesting experiment and one to keep an eye on.
