Community involvement is one of Fortnite’s greatest assets. Between memes, fan submitted designs and the legendary Creative Mode, Epic Games’s communication with its players are what makes the game so special. Klombos, surprisingly, have origins in the community as well. Why are they called Klombos anyway? Here are the surprising but simple origins of the Klombos.

The surprising but simple origin of Klombos

If you’ve ever tried to come up with a name for a gamertag, team or any other creative venture, you’ll know that the best, catchiest names just happen. They have to come naturally, and the more you think about it the worse it sounds.

Klombos are the new dinosaur-like creatures that have come out of hibernation to roam the island. What does Klombo even mean? As far as we know, it’s just a cute name that a player came up with that Epic Games made canon.

What we now call Klombos were first discovered as creatures hibernating under the snow in the early days of Chapter 3. A thread on r/FortniteBR revealed the Klombo ahead of the creature’s official release.

The lovable dinosaur-whale thing instantly drew the admiration of players, with many comparing the Klombo to Toothless from the How to Train Your Dragon films. One user, Graphenegem, expressed their desire to have a plush while dubbing the then unnamed creature “Klombo”.

It was such a great name that Epic Games decided to call them just that. When asked how it “felt to make Fortnite history” by HIppieDogeSmokes, Graphenegem simply replied “Weird”.
