How to Upgrade Weapons in Fortnite Season 6: Upgrade and Crafting Guide
By Andrew Lin
How to upgrade weapons in Fortnite Season 6 isn’t much different than how it’s been done in previous seasons in Chapter 2. There are two ways you can get better gear: crafting and upgrading.
To upgrade weapons, you’ll need to find an NPC that can upgrade a weapon for you. You’ll need an eligible weapon and enough bars to pay for them. Since the season just started and bars have been reset, you’ll probably be a little short on them for now.
How to Upgrade Weapons in Fortnite Season 6
There are only a few NPCs around the map that can upgrade your weapons for you, and many of them are at the edge of the map. Realistically, it’s not worth seeking those guys out. The easiest ones to get are from Jonesy the First at Pleasant Park and Remedy at Craggy Cliffs. You’ll probably meet a bunch of enemies when you land at these locations, so defeat your enemies first to earn some bars.
NPC upgrading seems to be more difficult this season, but luckily you can do the job yourself with the crafting system if you have the right weapons. Crafting a weapon will bump up its rarity as well. You can only do this with a Makeshift type weapon, as once it’s been specialized as a Primal or Mechanical weapon it can no longer be upgraded in your crafting menu.
Given this choice, which one should you go for? Primal weapons do more damage, but have worse accuracy. Mechanical weapons are the kinds that we’re used to in Fortnite.
You can give a huge power up to your gear on the cheap if you make clever use of the upgrade NPCs and the crafting system. If you find an uncommon (green) makeshift weapon, you can first upgrade it to rare (blue) and then craft it to an epic (purple) weapon. You’ll save on some bars, since having an NPC upgrade your weapon costs more the higher the rarity it goes. Remember to upgrade first, craft later.
Some weapons can be further specialized, like the bow. Both the Primal and Mechanical bows can be combined with other items to give the arrows a special effect, while boosting up the rarity while you’re at it.
