Fortnite Battle Royale: Will the P90 bring an end to M16, basic burst rifles?

Recently, players have been moving on from assault rifles due to new weapons being introduced to Fortnite Battle Royale. To our surprise, yet another wish-list gun is on the way.

Fortnite is about to change yet again. Added to the vault was the powerful tactical SMG which was pretty OP when used in close quarter combat. An epic tactical SMG melted almost anyone on the wrong end of the barrel; eventually being used as the go-to weapon after the pump shotgun.

Still, we’re waiting for the bloom on those weapons to be fixed. At least they’re trying, right? Either way, load outs continue to change as Epic Games gives its fanbase new toys to play with. For instance, the most recent submachine gun that replaced the tactical.

Instead of Fornite competitors opting to use an assault or burst rifle, submachine guns became the primary weapon of choice. Not to mention, the drum gun also taking up an inventory slot to provide additional close-range firepower depending on how confident one is with a shotgun.

Have you come across a squad using drum guns all at the same time? Good luck trying to survive that gun fight.

When it comes to the thermal scope, it doesn’t necessarily help aside from spotting enemies or chests. The hit detection is a bit off even when the crosshair is over an enemy player. Every second or third shot drifts off to the left or right.

At least, that’s how it feels to me. So, what else is on its way that will likely change how we manage our inventory slots? How about another SMG?

That’s right, the Compact P90 SMG is making its Fortnite Battle Royale debut this week.

End of a brief era?

With the announcement of the P90 release, does this spell the end for both M16 assault and burst rifles in the game? They’re still being used but I don’t feel like it’s quite as much unless it’s the FAMAS and or SCAR.

There’s no way you’re leaving either one of those sitting behind for another player to pick up and use on you later down the road. It’s just not happening. Also, SCAR over FAMAS for me only to help counter those who build quickly.

Now, surely, fans of the shooter genre are losing their minds over this announcement. In a good way, I might add. For those familiar with Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, the P90 is used by GIGN recruits along with defense operators Rook and Doc.

It provides a high rate of fire to go along with a decent size magazine but the recoil can be a bit of an issue. In addition, it’s not very productive in medium to long-range gunfights.

Which isn’t necessarily a problem since people end up in build battles and close-range combat throughout the game. So, it may not call for the assault and burst rifle to be removed due to low usage but it could end up resulting in Epic Games figuring out a way to get players interested in using them again.

Is this part of their master plan? Only time will tell.
