It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for. Fortnite season 5 is finally upon us! Here is an overview of the big reveal, as well as the new changes to the map.

It’s here and oh my God, is it wild! Fortnite season 5 dropped this morning with its usual 4:00 a.m. update time and brought with it some brand new map locations, as well as some game changing features.

Let’s start with the map. Rest in peace, Moisty Mire and Anarchy Acres. The ugly swamp and the lesser of two farmers fields are gone forever, replaced by Paradise Palms and Lazy Links respectively.

The entire Southeast corner of the map has dried out into a desert wasteland. The area from Lucky Landing to the newly upgraded race track now looks like Utah/Nevada with its badland features surrounding a second Fortnite city to rival Tilted Towers.

Here’s a closer look at the upgraded area:

The other two massive map changes are the addition of Lazy Links and the new viking outpost on top of the mountain between Greasy Grove and Snobby Shores. The mountain is most likely home to Ragnarok, the level 100 battle pass skin from this season.

Lazy Links is replacing Anarchy Acres, which was a lesser version of Fatal Fields. The developers at Epic Games are great at listening to what their players want, and two of the same location was definitely something worth changing.

With the addition of the Lazy Links golf course comes driveable golf carts! “All terrain karts,” or ATK’s are easily the biggest addition to the game outside of the new map locations.

Not only does the ATK provide you with a storm getaway vehicle, but the whole squad can ride in the carts a well. The roof of the ATK acts as a bounce pad, so get creative with how you use these.

Speaking of creative, the final game changing update is the use of rifts. I haven’t played enough to fully understand how these work yet, only that you can now use the rifts to briefly teleport to the sky above their location. It’s a game changer if you are in a fight.

Overall, Epic Games has done an incredible job of packing in the perfect amount of changes to both the map and game play for season 5. The continue to listen to what gamers want and it looks as though this season is going to be a very interesting one.

Get to the couch, turn on your console or computer or whatever you play on and get in the game. You’re going to want to see all of these new season 5 additions first hand because they are amazing.
