Fortnite Battle Royale: If you aren’t using builder pro on console, you aren’t playing the game right

Everyone knows that the PC versions of Fortnite Battle Royale is about building first and gun skill second. After the introduction of the Builder Pro controller settings on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, building has become even more prevalent than on PC.

If you are a console player and you are unwilling to make the switch over to the Builder Pro settings, you are going to get left in the dust by those players who are willing to adapt. I wrote an article earlier this week that one of the skills required to be good at this game is the ability to adapt to new items and new strategies with each update.

Many players are still using the Combat Pro or Standard controller settings that were originally released. These two settings are good for combat and if you are used to using them, it will help your game. However, building is not easy by any means with this setting.

Without a doubt, changing your controller layout will be difficult. But, after getting the muscle memory down and being able to get into build offs and put up walls and ramps quicker, your game will only get better.

I was like many of you reading this just a few weeks ago. I was skeptical as to whether or not I could change my button layout and be able to still win games and after some significant practice, I was able to get back to competent level.

I felt much more comfortable in build offs and could counter a player shooting at me quicker than before. The ability to click one of the two triggers or bumpers and build a wall or floor quicker is invaluable.

The only problem that you will notice when switching to these settings is that it is harder to switch materials. Clicking left on the D-Pad is totally unrealistic as on both consoles, it is totally out of the way of the buttons you usually press while playing. If you need to switch quickly mid-fight, you will be in trouble.

But, all in all, this change has made me a much better player and I can honestly say that I have won several games because of my ability to out-build an opponent. Battle Royale is all about finding those exploits in the game that can give you the slightest advantage.

Next: Which tier 100 skin is better – John Wick or Omega?

This is definitely one of those slight advantages that will reward those who can use it properly.

If you haven’t already, I would highly recommend making the change to Builder Pro today and learning how to use it. You won’t be disappointed with the results.
