Fortnite has had a rough year in 2022.

Fortnite has basically been losing players ever since May of 2021. The game saw an increase of almost 2 million players in March, which coincided with the debut of Zero Build to the game. Outside of that, just about every month, save for one, in 2022 saw a loss of players. No month being more disastrous for the game than June when No Sweat Summer debuted and bombed at the same time. The player base fell by over 9 million players.

The game did see a swing of about 2 million returning players again in August, which of course was the Dragon Ball crossover event, but that was it. So when Fortnitemares came around, there was some hope the event would bring players back.

Yet, it wasn’t the hit many had hoped it’d be, and the game lost over five million users across September and October, with October alone seeing 2.5 million leave the game. Seeing at how the series relies on these seasonal events to drive traffic, that’s not a good sign.

The November numbers aren’t any more promising, with over another million fans tuning out, and the daily peak for the month falling by 100,000 players.

Fortnite is not dying despite the loss

Fortnite hits its peak in May of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, and at the time, it was soaring with nearly 282 million players.

As of November 30, 2022, the game only has (emphasis on the sarcasm on “only”), 250 million players. So, the game isn’t going anywhere. The number of people playing is still in the ludicrous number range.

For some interesting info, if every active player spent just $8 on the game for some sort of cosmetic purchase, the game would generate $2 billion in revenue for the month. We’re pretty sure they can survive on that.
