Fortnite almost had a Ricky and Morty-themed boss for Chapter 2.

Rumors in video games are a dime a dozen and have existed for as long as games themselves. From the fake rumor that you could play as Reptile in Mortal Kombat (1992) to the bonkers yet true rumor that Atari buried thousands of copies of ET in the desert after the game failed, rumors and video games go hand in hand.

One new rumor from a respected Fortnite fan and leaker, Egyptian Fortnite Leaker, claims that Ricky and Morty’s Rick Sanchez was going to be a boss for Chapter 2, Season 7. That specific season was last summer and featured an alien invasion that would eventually lead to the final event of the chapter.

One of the bosses for the season, with the tagline “Invasion”, was going to be the alcoholic and abusive grandfather from the Rick and Morty cartoon from Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block of shows. The character, in theory, would have fit with the theme of the season. A lot of the series’s episodes deal with space travel, and Rick has had a lot of interactions with aliens in the franchise. Both good and bad.

It’s good that Rick Sanchez wasn’t a boss in Fortnite

As a brand, Rick & Morty is nearly nine years old, debuting in 2013. It’s only had five seasons, and only totals 51 episodes, yet, despite that, it’s become highly oversaturated. To the point that a lot of adult-focused cartoons not only copy the content and tone of the show but the animation as well.

Bringing in Rick Sanchez into the game in 2017 or 2018 would have made sense, but by 2021, and even now, the character is overplayed and no longer caters to the same sized fanbase that the show was once known for.
