Fortnite: Optic Gaming drop Baldy and Gunfly

With the release of their two remaining Fortnite players, Optic Gaming has effectively dropped out of the competitive Fortnite scene.
Near the end of 2018, Optic Gaming released their entire PUBG competitive roster with the future of that eSport looking bleak, keeping only one player as a content creator. With the release of their two Fortnite players, they will be stepping away from all battle royale games for the time being.
On January 12th, Kenneth “Baldy” Anderson, and Stephen “Gunfly” Brown both announced on Twitter that they were leaving the Greenwall immediately and looking for new organizations to represent.
Kodiak, the eSports director for Infinite eSports posted on Optic’s subreddit how everything transpired.
"“We were approached by Kenneth (Baldy) and Stephen (Gunfly) and they made it clear to us they wanted to play with other duo partners. Being that we feel strongly about any competitive Fortnite players for OpTic playing as the same duo, we didn’t think it was fair to punish them or stand in the way of what they felt was best for their own success. Essentially giving them the option of staying as one duo or parting ways.They decided to part ways, and we released them from their contracts on good terms all around. We really do wish them nothing but success and are thankful for their maturity and understanding.”"
With the Fortnite World Cup approaching near the end of 2019, it is unclear if Optic will leave their Fortnite roster empty, as they likely would want to be involved on the biggest stage Fortnite will have to date.
Do you think the signing of competitive Fortnite players is worth it? Obviously, there’s a lot of money to be made but it seems that there’s not much consistency in the placings of players due to the randomness that is battle royale eSports.
