Fortnite Battle Royale: Say hello to the new double barrel shotgun

It seems like it has been a really long time since the shotgun category received an update in Fortnite Battle Royale. The heavy shotgun was released in mid-March so the introduction of the double barrel shotgun is very exciting for dedicated fans.

Let me begin by saying the new double barrel is absolutely nasty! The new competitor to the heavy shotgun is now the double barrel shotgun. After having been able to use the new weapon in a couple games early this morning, I think a lot of players will be happy with the balance of the gun.

After reading the patch notes, it is clear that this gun will require a lot of skill to use and when used correctly, will likely kill an enemy. Let me give you a quick summary of how the gun works:

• There will be a rare and legendary variant (purple and gold)
• The gun, like all other shotguns, will shoot 10 pellets per shot but has a wider bullet spread
• The cooldown between switching from any weapon to the double barrel is two seconds
• The reload time is similar to that of the pump
• Base damage for the rare variant is 143 and legendary is 150

These are all changes I can get on board with.

I haven’t been killed by the new shotgun yet and when I do, I am sure it will frustrate me. But keep in mind, it isn’t easy to hit all 10 pellets on to a player unless you’re less than five meters away from them.

And, after watching some Fortnite streamers and YouTubers use the gun and hearing their reactions, it seems everyone is happy with the new weapon. Unlike with the new SMG and the P90 introduction, I am seeing no one claim that it is too overpowered.

I think that it makes sense to have this shotgun be harder to find because it truly is a lethal weapon. It is a lot like the really close range sniper with the damage it can deal. Two shots per clip is plenty and it won’t break the game at all.

If you haven’t gotten the chance to use this new weapon in the game yet, hurry up and download that update and get on it. You will have a very good time rushing up to someone and landing a critical shot with this double barrel. It is really a good feeling.
