Parents are now paying big money to get their kids Fortnite lessons
By Ben Sundock
Apparently being good at Fortnite Battle Royale is not just a hobby, but a lifestyle for many children. Reports have come out that some parents are going as far as to hire people to coach their children. This is not a joke.
“There’s pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it,” Ally Hicks, a mother who bought her son Fortnite lessons said when asked by the Wall Street Journal. “You can imagine what that was like for him at school.”
Yes, ladies and gentleman, you read that correctly. Kids are so determined to win Battle Royle matches that they are going as far as to get their parents to hire coaches for them to get better. And the funny thing about this tactic being employed now is that these kids are not trying to become professional gamers or YouTubers.
They simply want to be good enough to not be made fun of at school.
While Fortnite has quickly become one of the most competitive landscapes in the online video game domain, the desire of players to get those Victory Royale’s at a high rate has increased as well.
I can sympathize with those kids who struggle playing the game because it is both depressing and frustrating to get killed over and over making no seemingly no progress.
However, I do not see why tutors of the video game are becoming a trend. There is no way this has happened before in any online game. But hey, who am I to judge if it is working?
Nick Mennen said his 12-year-old son had a tough time winning any games but, “Now he’ll throw down 10 to 20 wins.” Good for him! He obviously hired the right guy to teach his son the ins and outs of the complicated BR.
I wouldn’t consider myself an ‘elite player’ but I can manage at least three to four duo victories a day if I am really trying hard, so where do I sign up to become a coach/tutor? This is a job I would greatly enjoy!
To the parents reading this, I would recommend getting your kids a tennis coach, or a golf coach and not spending money on a gaming coach. It’s simply unnecessary to spend $10-$20 an hour on a gaming coach.
